Instructors - Tired of distributing final exams after your course is over? We are pleased to offer you an alternative to handing back your own exams - Final Exam Cubbies - where exams from the previous quarter may be retrieved 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by your students.
How does it work?
Step 1: Provide your students with information about the Buckley Waiver and have them "sign the waiver" at the time of the exam. Advise them to pick up their exams from the 4th floor Final Exam Cubbies located just outside the activity lounge (room 460) beginning the Wednesday after finals week and continuing throughout the following quarter.
Step 2: Once your exams are graded and the grades are recorded, give your exams to the Assistant Student Affairs Officer at the front desk (or leave them in her mail box if it’s after hours). She and our student workers will sort the exams and place all exams with a signed Buckley Waiver in one of the cubbies in the cubby cabinet . Exams without a Buckley Waiver will be returned to you for distribution to students as we cannot place these exams in a cubby due to privacy issues. PLEASE DO NOT PUT EXAMS IN A CUBBY YOURSELF.
Step 3: At the end of the quarter, exams from the previous quarter that have not been picked up will be shredded.
More on the Buckley Waiver
Policy requires that we keep student information that is available on a final exam confidential unless the student waives their right to privacy. The Buckley Waiver is the mechanism by which we secure the student’s waiver of their rights.
There are three ways your students can “sign” the Buckley waiver:
Sign the waiver that is printed on the back of the blue books students purchase at the bookstore.
Write “Buckley Waiver” at the top of their exam/paper and sign their name below these words.
* An exam without one of these types of waiver cannot be distributed via the cubbies. Rather, these exams should be kept in a secure location in your office and handed back to the student personally in order to preserve their privacy.
