The program is a graduate course of study, leading to the Ph.D. degree, in which students complete course work in science studies in addition to course work in their home department - - communication, history, philosophy, or sociology. Students and faculty in the Program are committed to working toward deeper understanding of scientific knowledge in its full cultural and historical context.
Center for Comparative Immigration Studies (CCIS)
Established in 1999, CCIS conducts basic and policy-oriented research projects on international migration and refugee flows throughout the world. We seek to illuminate the U.S. immigration experience through systematic comparison with other countries of immigration, especially in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.
Center for Iberian and Latin American Studies (CILAS)
The Center for Iberian and Latin American Studies (CILAS), emphasizes interdisciplinary and comparative approaches to research on Latin America (plus the Iberian peninsula).
Center for Research on Education Equity, Assessment and Teaching Excellence (CREATE)
CREATE addresses the challenges in increasing the number of underserved, low-income youths who are eligible for admittance to college by forming collaborations between UCSD and local elementary and secondary school districts; offering the highest quality of education to 700 students at our on-campus model school - The Preuss School; conducting research on improving educational opportunities for underserved students; and offering innovative teacher education and professional development opportunities for local educators.
The mission of the Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies, UCSD is to be the premier institute for social science research and economic and social policy on Mexico and U.S.-Mexican relations. The Center supports research relevant to current policy issues in Mexico and to the binational relationship in close collaboration with social scientists at Mexican institutions.
Institute for International, Comparative, and Area Studies (IICAS)
The Institute for International, Comparative, and Area Studies (IICAS) was created in 2001 to promote research on international, comparative, and cross regional topics. Building on the substantial existing strengths of UCSD in international studies, IICAS coordinates and supports the research of faculty in departments, area studies programs, and the Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies (IR/PS).
