The academic advising staff is available to provide advice and answers to questions about the Undergraduate Program in Sociology. In addition, answers to FAQs have been prepared for common questions. Additional information including specialization requirements (degree checks) can be found under Major/Minor Information.
Current Sociology majors, minors and all other UCSD students- Please submit your questions via the VAC. An advisor will respond to you within 1-3 business days. Your questions will be answered via the VAC only and through email.
Newly admitted or prospective students- Please contact the Undergraduate Coordinator at socadvising@ucsd.edu.
For Clearance to Enroll in a Class/Seminar and Grade Changes/Incompletes- Please contact Asst. Student Affairs Officer, Beverly Bernhardt.
Walk-In Advising Hours
Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays: 8:30-11:30am
Tuesdays & Thursdays: 1:00-3:30pm
Students may leave material to be placed in an instructor's or TA's mailbox with the front desk in the Sociology department main office in SSB 401.
Midterms and Final exams from the previous quarter can be picked up in bins located near the Sociology department main office in front of SSB 460.
Problems with grades should be discussed with the instructor of the class or TA of the section. If you are having a serious conflict with an instructor, please bring your situation to the attention of the undergraduate coordinator. You must speak with the undergraduate coordinator before you make an appointment with the department chair.
If you are a junior or senior considering graduate school, you may want to contact a graduate school career adviser in the Career Services Center or if you have some questions about our own Ph.D. program, you may contact, Manny dela Paz the graduate adviser in our department.
